Could not think of an idea for blog..so posting my research work :P
Just wanted to show a very nice picture of my proton wire.
The pentagons are imidazoles (They are present in important
amino acids in our body too) and they are all hydrogen
bonded here and that is why it is a proton wire.
This is a preliminary stage for condensed phase proton
exchange membrane in fuel cells :)
Gist is my system in the Angstroms scale works very well
(in transporting protons) and ppl collaborating with us
are going to make large scale version of these!! (which
will not be this simple but tangled 3D versions)

hmmm.. interesting... how large is "large scale"?
ReplyDeleteIn IIT ling Dayaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :p
ReplyDeletekyoun be... dayaa kyoun?
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say daya after a long time :D
ReplyDeleteDayaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!
ReplyDelete:P :P
@ Usha: looks cool! is the large scale version of this synthesized to be used as the material inside fuel cells for electricity generation? I may sound very naive and stupid.... :P
ReplyDelete@ Raja and Rahul: what is this "dayaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" supposed to mean?
@Rahul : large scale is a thin film polymer about 3-4 cm in width
ReplyDelete@Pescado : You are absolutely right. The material will go between the electrodes in a fuel cell and will help generation of electricity.
Is is as simple. H2 enters one electrode gets broken in 2H+ and 2e-. The electron passes through the circuit(current) and the protons pass through this Proton Exchange Membrane and then they both join the other electrode with some oxygen to form water.
This is green energy :) No CO2 emission...just tapping nature in a different way
Btw...dayaaaaaaaaaaaa is supposed to be a IIT lingo for saying too much funda or bookish i guess... In BITS we used to say OHT - Over Head Transmission :P
ReplyDeleteNo, No. That's not what Dayaaa means.. well, not always at least.. it literally means what "daya" in hindi would mean.. I guess you could say it is short for "prabhu! dayaa karo hum par!!" :D that can be for OHT, can be if someone comes up with a particularly nasty PJ, or anything like that. :)
ReplyDeleteit is imperative to stretch the last 'aaaaa' as much as you need to in order to convey the strong feeling in your heart. :P making a pained face is optional, but highly recommended. :D
Usha, are you in Amherst right now?
ReplyDeleteWow Usha.. sounds all fundoo! Good luck! :)
ReplyDeleteOthers, thanks for the gyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan! :)
I went to Amherst on 26th and came back yesterday (28th). Drove 6 hrs to/fro all by myself :) for the first time. Had to give a presentation and attend a meeting...
ReplyDeleteHaan, I realized that when I read your status on Facebook. I was just wondering who is clicking on our blod from Amherst. :P
