I was surfing through Youtube videos to listen to songs from one of my favourite musicals...."The Sound of Music".... and I found a video of a live performance that some one had uploaded.
More than 200 dancers were performing their version of "Do Re Mi", in the Central Station of Antwerp (Belgium). It was a promotional stunt for a Belgian television program, where they were looking for someone to play the leading role in the musical of "The Sound of Music".
I just wondered how lovely it must be to witness something like this. Maybe someday while moving around in a mall somewhere, out of the blue, the people around you would break into a song-dance sequence like this....not just any song...but something funny and nostalgic. Maybe something like "Sar jo tera chakraye"..... a promotional sequence for Shehnaz's latest hair product perhaps!! :D
Here's the video....

Wow!!!!! That was incredible!!! Thanks for sharing this, Pescy!
ReplyDeleteYep... pretty cool..
ReplyDeleteI am very curious about how will people react if something like this is staged in India .. say bombay ... The song being "Woh Ladki Hai Kahan" and the location being CST/Church gate/Dadar/ Bombay central station, Mumbai.
ReplyDeleteMy cynicism says .. no body will respond to the happenings. Any thoughts
I'll have to disagree... I think a lot of people will stand and see what's happening. The chaos of the city is one thing, and is pretty easy (and perhaps essential) to ignore, but something coordinated this well is such a rarity that I'll be surprised if most of us won't be curious enough to stand and see. Now, whether there'll be enough space to organize something like this AND whether there'll be enough space for more than a handful to even witness it properly is another matter.. most people will probably only see a big crowd gathered around something that they can't see and will go ahead thinking ki kuchh to ho raha hoga...
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rahul. In India where people get curious even if two people are fighting on roadside, such kind of coordinated dance will attract a lot of attention.
ReplyDeleteI remember that once I was at Kurla terminus to see off some guests and went to purchase platform tickets. Some cultural dance performance was going on there. I din't had time to inquire about details but huge crowd was cheering the performers. It looked like that they were mostly passengers, auto rikshaw walas and labours. And this was an afternoon performance right there next to ticket window.
Another such event I heard of is in Baroda. There is a particular group in faculty of arts in baroda university which perform such coordinated events at regular basis on public places in the city. It may be related to some awareness campaign or just for fun. For example once they gathered in a mall (not as a group but individuals) with umbrellas and slowly one after another all of them opened umbrellas and performed a dance or some skit. Sadly I never had first hand experience of such performances but heard that many times its very good and well rehearsed.
